One of the ways to make an impression on new visitors is to make your blog look more professional. Usually, the one mistake what people make while writing their blog posts is that they use slang language and make the post look "Cool" which actually is not liked by all. If your target audience is young teenagers then that's fine but on a blog where the age group doesn't matter, you should stick to some basic rules so that the blog becomes appealing to a larger target audience increasing traffic -

1. Choose your template wisely - The key to professional blogging is to choose the template wisely. It should not be funky type and should give a more clean and arranged look rather than a "Hep" look.

4. Don't use funky gadgets - like MP3 players, play sudoku, or feed my fish! I feel they look pathetic on a professional blog.

5. Use Charts & Diagrams - Use charts, diagrams, pictures, clip arts etc to relate to your text. Visual presentation is much more appealing than text posts.

6. Your Mail id - Provide a link to your mail id on your front page. It can be in the header or the footer but make sure that it is there. Don't be anonymous. Let people contact you and respond to their mails.
